Mysuru MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar on Monday met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Bengaluru and sought his intervention for expediting the process of transferring the land for the expansion of Mysuru airport.
Minister in charge of Mysuru district H.C. Mahadevappa was present.
Submitting a memorandum in this regard to the Chief Minister at his Cauvery residence, the MP discussed with the Chief Minister the development works that are lined up in Mysuru and other issues.
Emphasising the need for early completion of airport expansion that will drive economic development in the city, he said Mysuru is a major cultural centre and a lot of commercial activities are happening. The airport expansion will boost economic growth, drawing tourists, investors, and industrialists to the city.
The MP urged the Chief Minister to intervene in the matter of transferring 46 acres of crucial land required for the airport development.
M.r Wadiyar said the Special Deputy Commissioner’s consent for land acquisition had been received and the transfer of land will be initiated once the compensation was paid to the land owners. The government has to take steps in this direction to make it happen at the earliest. Once the acquisition process is done, the land will be transferred to the Airport Authority of India for taking up the works, he explained.
He also urged the Chief Minister to take steps for clearing the irrigation canal and the overhead electricity lines along the path of airport expansion. Either they need to be cleared or alternative steps have to be taken to make way for airport development works.
During his meeting, the MP said that the airport expansion works had been affected due to delay in the transfer of land. The works will get expedited if the Chief Minister intervenes on the matter and takes necessary steps, he said.
The MP also urged the Chief Minister for steps to conserve the heritage of Mysuru. Describing the Devaraja Market and the Lansdowne building as the key heritage of Mysuru, the MP sought for their renovation.
Cricket stadium
Mr. Wadiyar also urged the Chief Minister for taking steps on the acquisition of land for the international cricket stadium proposed in Mysuru. The Karnataka State Cricket Association has proposed to develop the stadium in Mysuru.
The stadium of international standards can help develop the city, triggering economic activities, with Mysuru being a hub for tourism. The stadium can put Mysuru on the global map, it must be prioritised and therefore requires attention from the government, he explained.
The MP also said that the stadium can create job opportunities. Mr. Wadiyar urged the Chief Minister to expedite the process of land acquisition and transfer of land for the stadium.
Responding to the MP’s appeal, the Chief Minister has assured to look into the issue, taking necessary steps on the land for the airport expansion and the stadium.
