An electric scooter battery suddenly exploded while it was docked at a charging point killing a woman sleeping nearby in Potladurthi village of Yerraguntla mandal in Kadapa district on Friday.

The deceased woman was identified as Venkatalakshmamma, 62, of the same village. According to the sources, Venkatalakshmamma was sleeping on the sofa next to the charging point, and was dead on the spot after being burnt to death.

The e-scooter was also completely destroyed and some household items were damaged. The body of the deceased woman was sent to Proddatur government hospital mortuary for post-mortem.

Yeraaguntla police officials have booked a case against the owner of the e-scooter and the investigation is on.
