A woman was found murdered at a railway construction site near the railway station in Hassan on Thursday morning. The police were trying to establish the identity of the victim, who is said to be aged around 35 to 40 years.
The railway workers spotted the body early in the morning and informed the police. The railway police of Arasikere Station reached the spot.
They found that the face of the deceased was smashed with a stone, making it difficult to establish her identity. The Arasikere railway police have registered the case.
The police suspected that the woman could have been raped and murdered.
Soumyalatha S.K., Superintendent of Police of the railway police, told The Hindu that they will carry out the investigation. The cause of death would be known after the post-mortem. We will know if she was raped only after further examination,” she said.
