The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) took out a mega rally upholding the motto ‘protection of Waqf and safety of society’ in Malappuram on Wednesday (February 19, 2025).

Inaugurating the rally and a public meeting, SDPI national general secretary P. Abdul Majeed Faizy warned that the Waqf law amendment would be a ticking time bomb for the Narendra Modi government at the Centre, haunting it relentlessly until the end of its term.

He said the Waqf amendment law, like the Citizenship Amendment Act aimed specifically at Muslims, was unconstitutional and discriminatory. “While Hindu and Sikh institutions are protected by laws that restrict membership to followers of their respective faiths, the Muslim Waqf Board is being asked to accommodate non-Muslim members, potentially undermining the autonomy of Muslim institutions. This move is as anti-Muslim and unconstitutional,” said Mr. Faizy, reminding the secular forces of their responsibility to resist the move.

SDPI State president C.P.A. Latheef presided over the function. Sunni Yuvajana Federation (SYF) State secretary Ashraf Baqavi, Mufti Ameen Mahi, Khalid Moosa Nadvi, SDPI national executive member Moovattupuzha Ashraf Moulavi, Women India Movement State president Sunita Nissar, former SDPI Palakkad district president E.S. Khaja Hussain, SDPI State vice president Thulaseedharan Pallikkal, State general secretaries P.P. Rafeek, P.K. Usman and K.K. Jabbar, State secretaries Eranjikkal Krishnan, V.T. Ikramul Haq and Anvar Pazhanji spoke.

The rally started from Malabar Special Police (MSP) school premises and concluded at Machingal bypass near Warangode. Hundreds of workers, including women and children, took part in the rally.
