SSP (Traffic) Praveen Kumar Tripathi, accompanied by other officers, flagging off the walkathon on Sunday.
The Puducherry Traffic Police organised a walkathon at the Gandhi Thidal on Sunday to raise awareness on wearing helmets as a safety measure.
The event coincided with the National Road Safety Month and the ongoing drive to enforce the rule mandating helmets for two-wheeler riders.
Praveen Kumar Tripathi, Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic), accompanied by other officers, flagged off the walkathon that drew several youth volunteers.
As part of the drive, special teams have been constituted to impose fines on violators across the city. Meanwhile, Station House Officers have been instructed to focus on the accident-prone stretches on the Puducherry-Cuddalore, Puducherry-Villupuram, Puducherry-Chennai (ECR), Puducherry-Tindivanam and Puducherry-Thirukkanur routes.
