Concerned over the ‘alarming’ violence against Hindus on the pretext of opposing Waqf Amendment Bill-2025 in West Bengal, Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Thursday (April 17, 2025) demanded president rule in West Bengal. The organisation also announced to hold countrywide protests against the violence, on April 19.

Accusing Mamata Banerjee government for its inaction over the violence against Hindus, VHP general secretary Milind Parande said that the organisation will seek time to meet President Droupadi Murmu and submit a memorandum to her requesting for imposition of President’s Rule in the state.

The VHP leader also critisized the Minister in WB for making anti-constitutional remarks and said that the role of ‘Bangladeshi’ sleeper cells, that are spread in States like WB and Bihar, in the violence cannot be ruled out.

“Imbalance in the Hindu population in the country is dangerous for the whole country. Even the Governor of Goa has mentioned similar state of affairs in the State. He had specifically mentioned a great drop in the Christian population percentage in Goa coupled with an alarming rise in Muslim population percentage,” said Mr Paradne who was speaking to media in South Goa.

He added that the locals in Goa are also witnessing ‘seemingly systematic’ settlement of Muslims from other parts of country in various assembly constituencies.

“This indicates nefarious design and the authorities must pay attention to such imbalances in the population as it may affect the political outcomes in elections,” he added.

Mr Parande also informed that at a meeting of VHP top office bearers held in February in Prayagraj, during Maha Kumbh Mela, the organization had resolved to launch a nationwide awareness campaign that aimed to advocate for freeing temples from government control, promoting greater autonomy for Hindu religious institutions.

“VHP will be undertaking a Hitachintak Abhiyan in the month of November with target of enrolling over 1 crore Hindus in VHP. In the coming 1-2 years it will be our effort to have a service project in the field of education, health or employment for the deprived section of the society. VHP is already running over 5500 service projects that are benefitting tens of lakhs of people across the country and empowering the Hindus,” he added.
