Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) president G.K. Vasan on Tuesday (May 20, 2025) urged the State government to conduct a survey to assess damages caused to crops due to recent rains and take steps to provide compensation for affected farmers.

In a statement, Mr. Vasan pointed out to the damages caused to crops due to sudden rains over the past few days in Tamil Nadu, particularly in the Cauvery delta districts. Banana, sesame, betel leaf and paddy crops ready for harvest were severely affected by rains, he said.

Further, he also raised concerns voiced by farmers over damages caused to harvested paddy stored at direct purchase centres, due to water stagnation. The Agriculture and Revenue Departments should conduct a survey to assess damages and provide compensation of ₹40,000 per acre for the affected paddy farmers and ₹25,000 per acre for sesame farmers, he added.
