Daily trouble: The Railway Border Road, which leads to the Kodambakkam station, is occupied by vehicles parked illegally.

Unauthorised parking on the service roads along the Kodambakkam and Mambalam railway stations causes traffic bottlenecks at rush hours. Thousands of commuters board suburban trains at these stations. The roads leading to these stations are choked with heavy traffic because of the presence of commercial establishments. People visiting these shops park their vehicles on the road margins. Pedestrians are forced to walk on the narrow roads.

Traffic Police respond:

A senior official of the Greater Chennai Traffic Police says steps will be taken soon to deploy towing vehicles for removing the vehicles parked without authorisation. Display boards warning against illegal parking will also be installed.

Inadequate street lights

Residents of Kaspapuram near Agaramthen put up with bad roads and water stagnation. They could not go out at night for lack of adequate street lights. At Ganesh Nagar and Sakthi Nagar, anti-social elements resort to chain-snatching and robbery. Recently, an elderly resident of Ganesh Nagar First Street was assaulted by a gang of three and robbed of his cell phone. The Tambaram City Police have promised the complainants that patrol vehicles would be deployed. Inadequate street lights have emboldened youths from nearby areas to commit petty crimes.
