Two sentenced to two years in jail in POCSO case

The court for POCSO case in Chittoor district on Wednesday (January 29) sentenced two persons to two years of imprisonment and imposed on them a fine of ₹4,000 each in connection with the kidnapping and sexual assault of a minor girl in Madanapalle Town.

According to police, the girl was kidnapped from Mayabazar Street in Madanapalle Town in the erstwhile combined Chittoor district (now part of Annamayya district) on February 26, 2022. Following a complaint lodged the next day, the Madanapalle Two Town police launched an investigation and arrested two persons identified as Kotakonda Charan and Sheikh Hamid of Annamayya and Tirupati districts respectively. They were booked under provisions of the POCSO Act.

Annamayya Superintendent of Police V. Vidyasagar Naidu lauded the investigating officers for ensuring a swift and fair trial. “This judgment reaffirms our commitment to delivering justice for victims of child abuse. We will continue to take strict action against offenders to ensure a safe environment for children,” said the SP, adding that the district police were dedicated to strengthening the ‘Good Trial Monitoring System’ to ensure timely justice in sensitive cases.
