First Additional Special Court for Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act Cases in Madurai on Saturday sentenced two men to 12-year rigorous imprisonment for possession of hashish and hashish oil in Thoothukudi in 2021.

First Additional Special Court Judge A. S. Hariharakumar sentenced the two men: R. Bistis and M. Vasanthan alias Prasanth to 12-year rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh each. Another accused in the case, N. Johnson died during the pendency of the trial.

In 2021, Narcotics Control Bureau officers busted a drug trafficking network and seized 9.14 kg of hashish and hashish oil in Thoothukudi.
