Two girls drowned after falling into a water pit in Garladinne mandal in the district on Saturday.

According to the police, nearly eight girls, belonging to Kondakinda Kottala near Kallur village of the mandal, went to pick up sticks for cooking on the banks of river Pennar. While returning, two of them accidentally fell into a water pit and drowned. After walking some distance, the other girls found that two of them, Lakshmi (15) and K. Aruna (9), were missing and informed the villagers.

Villagers rushed to the spot and searched in the water pit and found the two dead. A case has been registered by the Singanamala police for further investigation.
