A two-day ethno-veterinary workshop for dairy farmers and livestock keepers, aimed at educating and empowering them on the use of traditional, home-made remedies for treating diseases in cattle and other farm animals was held at AuroKrishi here on October 3 and 4.

Organised by AuroKrishi and Svarnim Puducherry of Sri Aurobindo Society in collaboration with The University of Trans-disciplinary Health Sciences and Technology, Bengaluru and supported by the Environment Information Awareness Capacity Building (EIACB) hub of the Pondicherry Pollution Control Committee (PPCC), the event witnessed the participation of over 30 farmers from the Bahour region and dairy enthusiasts keen to explore sustainable and natural methods of livestock management.

According to a press release, participants shared their real-life challenges in animal care, and subject experts offered practical, experience-based solutions using locally available herbs and natural ingredients.

Nithya from EIACPB hub emphasised the importance of ethno-veterinary medicine in promoting sustainable livestock care and reducing dependence on chemical-based treatments. She also highlighted the importance of integrating traditional wisdom with modern science to ensure both animal welfare and ecological balance.

Ethno-veterinary practices are not only cost-effective but also environmental friendly and free from harmful side effects, said Kumar, an expert from The University of Trans-disciplinary Health Sciences and Technology.
