Two men were arrested on Saturday in connection with the murder of a 35-year-old woman, whose decomposed body was found inside a bed box in east Delhi’s Shahdara a day earlier.

Vivekanand Mishra, 65, the house owner, was nabbed from Surajmal Park in Anand Vihar, while Abhay Kumar Jha was arrested from the Aligarh Railway Station while he was attempting to flee. Efforts are on to nab the deceased’s husband, Ashish Kumar, a co-accused in the murder.

The Vivek Vihar police station had been alerted about the murder after neighbours complained about a foul smell emanating from a flat in Satyam Enclave. A police team reached the spot and found the house locked from outside. The team also found traces of blood near the back door, a senior officer said.

After the body was discovered, a murder case was registered and investigation initiated, DCP (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam said.

The deceased was identified as Anju, a native of Punjab’s Ludhiana.

During interrogation, Mishra confessed that he killed Anju, with the help of Jha and Kumar. Sources claimed the woman caught the three engaging in an obscene act.

‘Disposal methods’

The police also found that Mishra had been looking up different methods of disposing of a dead body using chemicals on the Internet. Additionally, he had also searched for open manholes of the Delhi Jal Board and drains near his residence, said the officer.

“These findings strongly indicate the accused’s criminal intent and premeditated planning regarding the disposal of the victim’s body. The fact that he was specifically searching for open manholes and drains near his residence implies that he may have been considering using them as a means to dispose of the body or any incriminating material related to the crime,” said the DCP.
