The Erode Police arrested two men on Saturday, members of an Iranian gang, for stealing a two-sovereign gold chain from a jewellery shop in Guruvareddiyur village.

Police said the accused, Afsar(34) and Harib Hussain (27), entered the shop, owned by Murugan, on August 19, pretending to purchase jewellery. During the visit, they stole the gold chain.

Following the incident, Ammampettai police registered a case and launched an investigation. The duo reportedly sold the stolen chain and spent most of the proceeds. Authorities recovered ₹50,000 from them and produced both before court, which remanded them in judicial custody.
