The Delhi police have arrested two men from Aya Nagar in south Delhi in connection with the murder of a Trinamool Congress worker in West Bengal during the 2024 Lok Sabha election, an officer said on Thursday.
The accused have been identified as Nurshed Sheikh, 37, and Asrof Sheikh, 40, both residents of Bardhaman in West Bengal.
The accused had been booked under Section 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 341 (wrongful restraint), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code and under various sections of Explosive Substances Act and Arms Act.
On May 12, 2024, a Trinamool Congress worker, identified as Mintu Sheikh, was killed by unidentified persons in West Bengal’s Purba Bardhaman district, ahead of the fourth phase of polling in the Lok Sabha election.
According to the West Bengal police, Mintu was returning home from Debipur village when the miscreants hurled three crude bombs at his motorcycle and stabbed him to death. The body was found in Ketugram village. During the attack, Mishir Sk alias Nazrul Islam, who was accompanying Mintu, managed to escape. 
During the investigation, six of the 16 accused were arrested. A West Bengal court declared Nurshed and Asrof proclaimed offenders.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sanjay Sain said the Delhi police received a tip-off on February 18 that Nurshed and Asrof were hiding in Aya Nagar. 
The duo were apprehended from Arjan Garh Metro Station, and during the interrogation, they confessed to their involvement in the murder.
The West Bengal police were informed about the arrest, and their officers came to Delhi to take over the accused’s custody.
