The New Washermenpet police have arrested a transperson for allegedly beating a platform dweller to death.

On May 23, the police received information that John Basha, 39, a platform dweller was found unconscious near MPT School. The staff of 108 Ambulance came to the spot and declared him dead. The body was sent to the Government Stanley Hospital for a post-mortem after a case for unnatural death was registered.

The police said the body had strangulation marks and other injuries, indicating that he was murdered. Further investigation revealed that John Basha was drunk on the night before his death. During a quarrel, Malaika, 38, of New Washermenpet, pushed him down and attacked him, the police said.

Police arrested Malavika on charges of murder.
