Trading session
Agricultural Research Station in Kovilpatti hosted a one-day training on ‘Climate resilient and post-harvest technologies for rainfed greengram.’ B. Bhakiyathu Saliha, Professor and Head released a bulletin on ‘Production and post-harvest technologies and value addition in pulses. Farmers from Ottapidaram block participated in the programme.
Carbon emission strategy
The Post Graduation and Research Department of Physics at Pope’s College, Thoothukudi, in partnership with Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant, conducted a one-day seminar on ‘Role of nuclear energy in India’s net zero carbon emission strategy.’ The seminar featured technical talks, oral presentations and an exhibition showcasing the role of nuclear energy in achieving sustainability goals.

National Engineering College, Kovilpatti, hosted ‘NEC-TECH FEST 2025,’ a national-level symposium. A series of workshops were conducted covering topics such as Agentic, AI, soil testing expertise, AI for civil innovation etc. Over 1,700 students from 70 colleges participated in the festival. Prizes worth ₹1 lakh along with certificates were given to the winners of various competitions.

Joshanna Maria Teresa, a Class 11 student of Jesus School for Excellence, Vadakkankulam, has won the prestigious Girl’s Talk 2025, a State-level competition. She competed against some of the most talented speakers. She received a cash prize of ₹1 lakh.
Founder remembered
The 6th Memorial Day of K.Ramasamy, founder of K.R.Consortium and Institutions, was observed on March 12. Annadhanam was provided more than 2,500 people at Kovilpatti GH, Sri Shenbahavalli Amman Kovil, Anna Bus Stand and orphanages and ashrams. A cleanliness drive was carried out by NSS volunteers at many places. Medical camps were organised at K.R.College of Arts and Science and Mandhithoppu. A blood donation camp was held at Lakshmi Ammal Polytechnic College. A memorial lecture on ‘Impact of GenAI: an overview’ was held.

Xavier Institute of Business Administration (XIBA), Palayamkottai, hosted the inaugural XIBA Director’s Trophy, an intercollegiate volleyball tournament, on March 6. A total of 18 teams from seven districts of South Tamil Nadu participated. The American College, Madurai, emerged as champions. Scott Christian College, Nagercoil, took the first runner-up position, while Joy University secured the second runner-up spot.

World Consumer Rights Day was observed at St.Mary’s College,Thoothukudi, on March 15. 3.25 In his address, the honorary secretary of EMPOWER India, A.Sankar, said that every day billions of consumers made choices that directly shaped our planet’s future—yet sustainable options often remained out of reach. Recent years have seen unprecedented environmental challenges, including record-breaking temperatures, severe weather events, and escalating biodiversity loss. Sustainable lifestyles are the key to addressing them.

The resource person, R.Bharathi from Government College of Engineering, Nagercoil, urged the students to think innovatively, designand develop new products and patent them.
