Tiruchi Corporation inaugurated polyclinic services at the urban primary health centres at Kamaraj Nagar and Thiruvanaikoil on Friday.

Following requests from residents, polyclinic services have been expanded to the health centres at Kamaraj Nagar and Thiruvanaikoil to cater to people from these and neighbouring areas. The newly introduced services aim at providing specialist consultations, diagnostic facilities, and extended medical support under one roof.

Specialists from various disciplines, including general medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, ophthalmology, physiotherapy, dermatology, dentistry, and psychiatry, are available in these clinics from 4.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. daily on six days a week. Around three or five doctors are engaged in each speciality at each clinic.

At present, polyclinics are available at UPHCs located on East Boulevard Road, Kattur, Subramaniyapuram, Woraiyur, and Edamalaipattipudur, which cover both the peripheral and core parts of Tiruchi. In addition to the specialised services, steps have been taken to establish radiology at the polyclinics to benefit people.

Polyclinics are available in densely populated areas of the city for the benefit of those from underprivileged backgrounds. Officials said that patients referred from other UPHCs can avail of the speciality consultations at the polyclinics instead of visiting the Tiruchi Government Hospital.

“Based on the response and need, we plan to expand these polyclinic services to other UPHCs across the city in the coming months,” said M. Vijay Chandran, City Health Officer.
