The Bhavani police arrested three persons for illegally procuring painkiller tablets to sell them as drugs here on Monday (September 8, 2025). 

The police had received a tip-off that Tapentadol tablets, a potent painkiller prescribed for post-surgical treatment but often misused by dissolving in water and injecting, were being sourced from Mumbai through courier services and sold to youths in the district. Acting on the information, the police monitored a courier service centre in Bhavani.

They intercepted a youth who had collected a parcel from Mumbai and took him to the station. Two more youths who came to receive another parcel were also detained along with the package. The three were identified as A. Dhamodran (26) of Kalingarayanpalayam, V. Venkatesan (28) of Anthiyur, and A. Akbar Ali (27) of Madurai. Inquiries revealed that they regularly purchased the tablets and sold them in Anthiyur, Bhavani, and Chithode.

The police seized 1,200 tablets worth ₹45,600, two two-wheelers, and four mobile phones used for contacting customers. The accused were arrested, produced before the court, and lodged in prison.

In a release, Superintendent of Police A. Sujatha warned that strict action would be taken against those involved in criminal activities in the district.
