Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy expressed deep condolences over the death of Gurpreet Singh in the SLBC tunnel accident.
Mr. Revanth Reddy announced a compensation of ₹25 lakh to the bereaved family. The body of Gurpreet Singh, a native of Punjab, was recovered on Sunday from the SLBC tunnel, a portion of which had collapsed on February 22, trapping eight workers. Gurpreet Singh was working as a tunnel boring machine (TBM) operator in the SLBC tunnel. He was employed by the American company Robinson and served as a TBM operator. Expressing sorrow over his demise, the Chief Minister and Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy conveyed their deep condolences. They assured support to the family by announcing a compensation of ₹25 lakh and arranged for the mortal remains to be sent to his native village in Punjab.
As the family desired that the body should be brought to his native place, the government is arranging a refrigeration-based hearse van to carry it along with police and two drivers, officials said.
