After losing ₹ 90 lakh on a gaming app over two years, a 37-year-old software engineer lodged a complaint against the app with the East Division Cyber Crime police seeking legal action.

Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case against unknown people charging them under the IT act and section 318 (4) (cheating and fraud that involves the dishonest inducement of property delivery) of BNS on Friday.

In his complaint, the victim said that he was introduced to the gaming app by his friend in June 2023 asking him to invest and play in the app to get good returns .

He also shared a link following which he was connected to the website “Namma Exchange” and created the user id and password.

The complainant said that on the site, there were options to play online betting for cricket, football, casino, and other games where the user can bet on the games and get good profit if they win.

To access the app the users have to recharge their account and to deposit the amount, they would provide individual bank account number and name for transactions.

The victim deposited ₹10,000 and started to play and bet in the casino and earned ₹40,000 the same day. Excited by this, he transferred ₹50 lakh from his savings while ₹40,000, which he had won through betting, was credited to his account from the application.

The complainantstarted investing more and more money to play games and lost the amount.

The complainant informed the police that after losing the amount, he consulted his friend, who advised him that it is normal to lose money initially to gain later and advised him to invest more to recover the lost amount. Based on his advice, he invested ₹50 lakh more from his savings to play the same game and lost the amount only to recover ₹10 lakh as profit.

Depressed over the loss the complainant decided to earn back all the money and took a loan for ₹40 lakh and started to play every day from June 3, 2023, till March 6 this year and lost all the amount.
