Students walking on tracks run over by train near Perungalathur Railway Station

Two college students were run over by a train while walking along the railway track near Perungalathur Railway Station on Tuesday.

The victims were identified as Vikram of Cuddalore and Adilakshmi of Chidambram, both aged 22 and employed in private companies. They became friends while they were studying in a college together at Cuddalore. They came to Chennai together and found jobs in separate companies.

As was their usual routine, Vikram and Adilakshmi got down at Perungalathur and were walking along the railway tracks to their respective hostels. On Tuesday, as they were walking, an EMU train headed to Chennai Beach from Chenglapattu ran over them, according to Government Railway Police (GRP), Tambaram.

Upon receipt of information, the police recovered the bodies and sent them to Government Hospital, Chromepet for postmortem.
