The indefinite strike by truck operators starting in the early hours of April 14 partly affected supply of vegetables in Mangaluru on April 15, but there was no dearth in the supply of fuel and domestic LPG cylinders.

Jamalsab, a vegetable vendor at Attavar, who gets vegetables from wholesale dealers in Mangaluru, said supply of vegetables from other parts of Karnataka to Mangaluru was partly affected. “Only about 70% of the total volume of vegetables supplied every day was available in the market on April 15. As a result of the shortfall, prices of green and a few more vegetables have increased. Some of the traders got their supply through KSRTC and private buses,” he said.

A member of District Petroleum Dealers’ Association said fuel stations in Mangaluru did not face a scarcity on April 14 and 15 since fuel terminals in Mangaluru had despatched sufficient quantity of fuel on April 13.

An official from a petroleum corporation in Mangaluru overlooking supply of LPG cylinders said, “So far, supply of LPG cylinders to different parts of Karnataka, and also to Kerala, has not been affected. Because of Bisu festival, the number of truck drivers who reported for duty at the bottling plants in Mangaluru was less on April 14, compared to other days. All of them are expected to report for duty on April 15.”
