Kerala has received a certificate of appreciation from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for performing the maximum number of Nucleic Acid Amplification Tests (NAAT), the rapid molecular diagnostic test used for detecting tuberculosis, during the 100-day TB Elimination campaign. It was a national campaign held from December 7, 2024 till March 7, 2025 as part of an intensive drive for active TB case finding.

Kerala tested 87,330 persons for active TB infection, of whom, NAAT tests could be performed for 71,238 persons (82%). Early diagnosis through molecular diagnostic tests like NAAT can help in initiating the treatment faster, thus reducing the risk of transmission.

As part of the 100-day campaign, the State managed to increase the rate of preventive TB examination from 1,500 to 2,201 per lakh population.

The campaign mapped 81.6 lakh people at high risk of developing TB, of whom, 1,98,101 people who had possible TB symptoms were subjected to detailed examination. A total of 5,588 new cases of active TB were detected in the 100-day campaign.
