Special activities and an awareness programme for women will mark the International Women’s Day in Yadgir on Saturday.
Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Panchayat Lavish Ordia has said that the awareness programme will be organised for women. Also, women will participate in various activities on water, sanitation and cleanliness in all gram panchayats to mark the day.
In a release here, he said that women can play a decisive role in ensuring proper usage of water and cleanliness. Therefore, the zilla panchayat has planned to encourage women from the gram panchayat level to create awareness among the general public on chosen issues.
“This year, it has been planned to take the celebrations to rural areas with a proper concept and also conduct activities in which women, elected representatives, the general public, girls, self-help group members, ASHAs and anganwadi activists and also youths can participate,” Mr. Ordia said.
The special activities for women are, Women’s village meeting: information will be given to women about the programmes that empower and encourage them to take part in each and every sector to become stronger; Run for cleanliness: a running competition for women to create awareness among them to have knowledge on cleanliness; Rangoli: Rangoli programme will be organised to create awareness among the public to keep their surroundings clean; Group discussion: a group will be organised to share views on using and saving water, maintaining sanitation properly and waste management. A woman officer will lead the discussion.
And, washing activities: individual cleanliness before and after having meals and using toilets will be narrated. During these activities, women will be given guidance on the disposal of material used during their menstrual cycle; felicitation: women who have made remarkable achievements in several activities and have shown a good success rate will be felicitated at a district-level programme.
“Each woman should actively participate in the programmes and put in efforts to get felicitated,” he said.
