A city-based advocate filed a complaint against two parking attendants of SMVT Railway Station for collecting exorbitant fee from people. Based on a complaint, the police registered an FIR against two parking attendants and charged them under various sections of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) last Thursday.

However, despite the FIR, neither the police nor the railway authorities conducted an inquiry, and the accused continued to collect illegal fee, alleged Timothy Charles, the complainant who checked the situation in the parking lot again recently.

In his complaint, Mr. Charles said he visited SMVT Terminal to receive his parents last Thursday. On entering the designated parking lot, he was issued an entry slip, and after parking the car, the attendant demanded ₹100 as parking fees. On being asked, he was given a receipt where the vehicle number field was manipulated to display the amount instead of the car details. Upon questioning the legitimacy of the receipt, the person refunded ₹50 and sought the receipt back.

A heated argument ensued after he refused to hand over the receipt. When Mr. Charles said he would complain to the authorities, the attendant said he had paid bribes to all railway officers, the complainant alleged. A recording of the entire incident, including the accused collecting excess amount from other passengers, were handed over to the police, said Mr. Charles.
