The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing into the alleged Dharmasthala burials continued its questioning of the 45-year-old complainant in the case for the second straight day on Monday.

He was quizzed on the production of the skeletal remains before the court at the time of recording his voluntary statement under Section 183 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.

At the time, the complainant had said he was producing skeletal remains of a female victim of sexual assault. When FSL reports showed that the skeletal remains were that of a male, the SIT arrested him for perjury on August 23. On production before the court, the magistrate granted his custody to the SIT till September 3.

SIT sources said the team took the complainant for a routine health check-up on Monday (August 25), before resuming questioning. The SIT will conduct searches in different places related to the complainant by obtaining search warrants.

The protection granted to the complainant under the Witness Protection Scheme on July 11 by the committee headed by Dakshina Kannada Principal District and Sessions Judge Basavaraj continues.

YouTuber too quizzed

Meanwhile, the Belthangady police on Monday continued to question YouTuber M.D. Sameer in connection with case registered against him for producing and sharing a fictional video about the alleged mass burial in Dharmasthala village and creating unrest in society.

He was also questioned, on the second day, regarding two cases registered against him in connection with the alleged assault on Suvarna News channel reporter in front of a private hospital at Ujire on August 6.
