Taramani Police has booked the members of Student Federation of India (SFI) for allegedly indulging in violence and manhandling police personnel when the latter went to prevent them from staging protest inside the government polytechnic college for women in Taramani on Tuesday against the management for allegedly hushing up the case of an alleged sexual assault of a minor student.
The government polytechnic college for women in Taramani on Tuesday witnessed tension as SFI cadre protested against the management and police personnel came to remove them. During the protest, SFI members clashed with uniformed police personnel protecting the premises.
The video of the incident went viral over social media since Tuesday. Based on a complaint from a sub-inspector, Taramani police registered a case against the members of SFI who took part in the protest under five sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for offences including rioting and criminal intimidation.
