Senior advocate and BJP leader M.K. Vijaykumar, 82, passed away at Karkala in Udupi district of Karnataka on October 3. He leaves behind two sons.

Mr. Vijaykumar collapsed in his house at Karkala and was taken to a private hospital where he succumbed.

A science and law graduate, Mr. Vijaykumar began his law practice in 1968. He was popular for fighting cases of helpless women, agricultural labourers and poor litigants for free.

In a condolence message, Udupi district BJP president Kutyaru Naveen Shetty recalled the services of Mr. Vijaykumar in strengthening the party organisation in Karkala and other parts of Udupi district. Mr. Shetty said Vijaykumar contested on the BJP party ticket from Karkala Assembly segment when the party did not have much standing in the constituency.
