The All Women Police Station (AWPS) attached to Vaniyambadi police has arrested a teacher at a government high school in the district on the charge of sexually assaulting six students.

The police said S. Prabhu, 35, an English teacher appointed on a temporary basis, was arrested after a complaint by J. Kamal, District Child Protection Officer (Tirupattur). The preliminary probe revealed that a group of girls of the school telephoned the childline (1098) and complained about the teacher for behaving inappropriately with them.

A team of child protection officials then conducted an inquiry with the schoolgirls, teachers, and other staff on the campus on Monday (February 24, 2025).

In the inquiry, the team found that teacher Prabhu, a native of Uthangarai in Krishnagiri district, was appointed as temporary staff to teach English a year ago. The police said the teacher misbehaved with six students of the same class by touching them inappropriately. The students also complained to authorities who conducted the inquiry that Prabhu also sang obscene songs in front of them.

The incident occurred during a computer science test conducted in the school on February 21, 2025.

Subsequently, the team also received written complaints from the affected students against the teacher.

Based on Mr. Kamal’s complaint, AWPS (Vaniyambadi) registered a case against the teacher under the POSCO Act and arrested him. The police said a detailed investigation would be carried out to ascertain whether the teacher had misbehaved with more students.

Officials of the District Child Protection Office have apprised Collector K. Siva Soundaravalli and S.P. Shreya Gupta of the incident. Further probe is underway.
