A class 11 student was brutally attacked by a three-member gang near Srivaikuntam in Thoothukudi district on Monday (March 10, 2025).

According to police, the 16-year-old victim boarded a bus from his village Ariyanayagipuram near Srivaikuntam to reach his school. However, at Kettiammalpuram, a gang of three intercepted the bus, dragged him out and attacked him brutally with sickle, before fleeing the scene. Passengers on the bus immediately alerted the police.

Upon receiving the information, police rushed to the spot and rescued the victim. He was then admitted to Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital for further treatment. Srivaikuntam DSP Ramakrishnan is conducting inquiries at the spot.

Preliminary inquiries suggest that the attack was due to a previous enmity.

Further inquiries are on to determine the exact motive of the attack. Search is on to apprehend the accused.
