A seven-year-old girl died after the iron gate of her apartment complex broke from its fixtures and collapsed on her at Nanganallur on Thursday afternoon.

The victim has been identified as S Aishwarya of MMTC Colony in Nanganallur who was studying second standard at a private school. Her father Sampath runs a supermarket in the locality. Police said on Thursday evening, Sampath took his daughter Aishwarya from school on a bike to their house.

The child got down from the bike. When her father went inside the apartment, Aishwarya attempted to close the iron gate fully. However, the gate collapsed on her and she was caught under it. Noticing the accident, passersby came to rescue her. The gate was removed and the child was rushed to a hospital where the doctors who examined declared she was brought dead.
