The State SC, ST Commission on Monday met to review the schemes being implemented in Tirunelveli district for the development of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

Commission Chairman S. Thamizhvanan said the meeting discussed the progress of the schemes that were being carried out in the district and officials were instructed to dispose of the petitions from the communities, especially SC/ST students, within a week.

Since the officials had been instructed to give patta for lands if the poor families had built their houses on unobjectionable poramboke lands, the SC/ST families should make use of the opportunity and carry out the verification with village administrative officers.

Mr. Thamizhvanan also handed over assistances worth ₹22.37 lakh to SC/ST beneficiaries.

Collector R. Sukumar, District Revenue Officer M. Suganya and Project Director, District Rural Development Agency, Saravanan, Dean, Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital, Revathi Balan and senior officials from various government departments participated.
