After the latest round of talks between the Samsung India Workers Union (SIWU) and Samsung management over the suspension of three union members ended without a resolution on Friday, union members decided to continue their protests.

SIWU, supported by the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), held a mass demonstration in Kancheepuram on the evening of February 14, accusing management of stubbornness in the ongoing negotiations. The protest was in response to the suspension of three employees, all members of the State government-recognized SIWU.

An SIWU member stated that the company cannot suspend employees arbitrarily. “We are ready for an investigation. If they believe there is an issue, they must issue a show cause notice, and we will respond. Suspending three office-bearers in this way is unlawful,” the member said.

A.S. Soundararajan,CITU Tamil Nadu general secretary, said that the talks were unsuccessful because management refused to lift the suspension of the three workers. “The protests will continue every day,” he said.

The delay in registering the Samsung India Workers Union led to protests in September 2024, when over 1,200 workers went on strike demanding better wages, working conditions, and union recognition. The strike ended in October after Samsung agreed to demands, including no punitive action against the protesting workers.
