Some residents of Pammal claim that they were being charged property tax twice due to errors in assessment following property redevelopment.

T.T. Sammandham, a resident of Anna Salai in the area, stated that when old buildings were demolished and new ones constructed in the erstwhile Pammal municipality now under Tambaram Corporation, new property tax bills were created in the name of new owners without cancelling the old assessments. He said many people were receiving repeated reminders for property tax payment even though they did not own property.

He added that many in the locality, for the last few years, had been receiving Tambaram Corporation property tax due notices related to erstwhile properties.

V.C. Santhanam, a civic activist in Chromepet, said there could be unpaid dues that need verification. He suggested sending a physical mail to the Corporation to notify higher authorities.

To this, Mr.Sammandham stated that the matter was raised with the Chief Minister’s complaint cell, which resolved that the old bills must be cancelled, yet no action was taken. He suggested checking existing property tax documents, rebates, and ageing records to prevent duplication.

S. Balachander, Tambaram Corporation Commissioner, stated that technical errors could have occurred. “A camp can be held across the Corporation to educate people on filing and resolving such matters,” he said.
