The festival of Mahashivaratri was celebrated with religious fervour across the region on Wednesday.
Believers undertook fasting, visited temples and spent their evenings in singing bhajans.
In Belagavi, devotees queued up in front of Shiva temples across the city. Long queues were seen in front of the Sri Kapileshwar temple in Shahapur, the Siddeshwar temple in Kanabargi, the Siddeshwar temple in Kakati, the Shiva temple in Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and the Military Mahadev temple.
In some temples, laddus and sweets were distributed.
A grand chariot festival was organised in the evening on the Veerabhadreshwar temple premises of the Police Headquarters.
