A session on ‘Malayalam Cinema and Mapilapattu’, organised by Rasmi Film Society as part of its golden jubilee celebrations, drew a large crowd here on Saturday evening (January 18).

The event was held in collaboration with the Kerala Chalachitra Academy, Kerala Film Development Corporation, Federation of Film Societies of India, State Information and Public Relations department, Malappuram municipality, and Kodur Janakeeya Samskarika Samiti.

A total of 22 singers of the Mehafil Academy in Malappuram rendered popular Mapilapattu songs from various Malayalam films.

Poet Anil Mankada inaugurated the programme, while Rasmi Film Society president Manambur Rajanbabu presided over the event. Secretary Anil K. Kurupan introduced the topic. Anees Koothradan, G.K. Rammohan, N.V. Mohammedali, K. Sasikumar, A. Babu, Anuraj, K.R. Nancy, and K.P. Hameed spoke during the session.

Mehafil Academy director Haneef Rajaji welcomed the gathering, and treasurer V.M. Suresh Kumar delivered the vote of thanks.
