Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday (April 30, 2025), visited the family of Shubham Dwivedi, a victim of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, and expressed his condolences.
After the meeting, Mr. Gandhi took to social media platform X to underline the need for urgent and resolute action. “Today I met the family members of Shubham Dwivedi who was martyred in the cowardly terrorist attack in Pahalgam and consoled them. The whole country stands with the bereaved families in this sad moment,” he wrote. He added that the Opposition has extended full support to the Union government and has demanded the convening of a special session of Parliament to deliberate on the matter.

Accompanying Mr. Gandhi during the visit was Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and senior Congress leader Pramod Tiwari, who described the encounter as emotionally charged. “Rahulji consoled the family. It was a very emotional moment. The family remarked that both Rahulji and they are victims of terrorism. It was deeply moving,” Mr. Tiwari said.
He further stated that the Congress party stands firmly with the bereaved family in their time of grief. “We demand the strictest possible action against the terrorists and their handlers based in Pakistan,” he said. Mr. Gandhi, he added, has also supported the family’s appeal to grant martyr status to Dwivedi.
