The public have demanded shifting of two Tasmac outlets that are functioning near government and private schools at Pudupalayam in Vazhapadi in the district.

Vazhapadi, a town panchayat with 15 wards situated 30 km from the Salem Corporation, has a population of 18,000. It has three Tasmac outlets with one functioning in a private building on Cuddalore Main Road and two at Thammampatti-Mangalapuram Road Junction in Pudupalayam. As two outlets function in the same area, they attract more buyers every day.

P. Mannan, a resident of Pudupalayam, said that a government girls’ higher secondary school and a private school were functioning near the outlets. During evening time, students find it difficult to pass the road. Further, the Tasmac customers park their vehicles near or on the road, which becomes a hindrance for the students walking that way. As private school students mostly travel in school vans, the government school students who walk or ride bicycles back home are the ones affected. As hundreds of heavy vehicles are passing on the Thammampatti-Mangalapuram Road, it becomes difficult for commuters to cross the road, especially during evening time. The Tasmac department should look into the issue and shift the two outlets to some other places, he added.

Tasmac officials said the issue has been brought to their attention, and they would look into the possibility of shifting the shops.
