The Forest Department remembered its staff who died during their service as it observed the National Forest Martyrs’ Day in Coimbatore on Thursday.

Sewa Singh, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Director of Tamil Nadu Forest Academy, presided over the martyrs’ day programme held on TNFA campus.

Officials from the Coimbatore Forest Division, TNFA, Central Academy for State Forest Service (CASFOS), trainee officers and staff paid homage at the martyrs column. Three rounds were fired in the air in the honour of martyrs. Officials also interacted with family members of Forest Department staff who died in the line of duty.

The Tamil Nadu Forest Department has been observing the day from 2017 to honour the staff who sacrificed their lives to protect forest and wildlife.

Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Principal of CASFOS V. Thirunavukarasu, Chief Conservator of Forests and Field Director of the Anamalai Tiger Reserve D. Venkatesh and other officials were present.
