: The Search Committee constituted for the appointment of Vice-Chancellor for Bharathiar University has received applications from eligible candidates.
It will soon be recommending a panel of three names to the government for appointment to the post.
The Search Committee appointed by the Department of Higher Education on April 25, 2025, consisting of P.W.C. Davidar, I.A.S. (Retd.), as Government nominee/ Convenor; and two members — P. Duraisamy, former Vice-Chancellor of University of Madras, as Syndicate nominee; and G. Thiruvasagam, Vice-Chancellor of Academy of Maritime Educational and Training (AMET) and former Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiar University and University of Madras, as Senate nominee, had held two sittings.
The first meeting was to appoint the Nodal Officer and Liaison Officer, and, at the second meeting, the advertisement notifying appointment of the Vice-Chancellor was finalised, it is learnt.
“The Search Committee invites applications for the post of Vice-Chancellor, Bharathiar University, from distinguished academicians with highest level of competence, integrity, moral and institutional commitment and possessing the educational qualifications and experience…” the notification stated.
Interested candidates possessing the qualifications and experience were required to download the prescribed application from the university website https://b-u.ac.in. The filled-in application were sent (in the prescribed format) by e-mail and one hard copy with documents to prove the eligibility and academic credentials by post to the specified address, before June 8.
In another development, the selection committees for appointing the Registrar and Controller of Examinations in the university are scheduled to have their sittings on June 11 at Chennai.
Heads of higher education institutions affiliated to the university, who have,for long been flagging shortcomings in the university administration, have heaved a sigh of relief over the process under way for making regular appointments to these key positions.
