Priyansh Arya missed Yusuf Pathan’s record for fastest IPL hundred by just two balls as the Punjab Kings batter slammed his maiden century in the cash-rich league against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Tuesday. The all-rounder from Delhi slammed 103 runs from 42 balls, which included seven fours and nine sixes.
A product of Delhi Premier League (DPL), the left-handed opener kept going bonkers at one end even when his teammates lost their wickets at the other end. Smashing the first ball of the match for a six, Priyansh Arya raced to a 19-ball fifty before completing his century on 39 balls.
Yusuf Pathan leads the list of Indian players for fastest IPL hundred when the former India cricketer slammed a 37-ball hundred against Mumbai Indians in 2010. Yusuf was playing for Rajasthan Royals then.
He also became the eighth uncapped player to smash an IPL hundred. Bought for ₹3.8 crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction, Priyash Arya started with a 47 against Gujarat Titans. His hundred was also the fastest by any batter against CSK.
However, in the next two games, the 24-year-old could only manage 8 (vs Lucknow Super Giants) and 0 (vs Rajasthan Royals). Priyansh Arya was particularly brutal against Matheesha Pathirana, who he hit for three back-to-back sixes before reaching the three figures with a four in the next ball.
Fastest IPL hundred by an uncapped player
Priyansh Arya’s hundred was also the fastest by an uncapped Indian player in the history of IPL. The record was previously held by RCB’s Rajat Patidar who had scored a 49-ball ton against Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2022 Eliminator.
Who is Priyansh Arya? All you need to know
Priyansh Arya first came into limelight when he smashed six sixes in an over in the inaugural edition of DPL last year. His six sixes led South Delhi Superstarz to post a mammoth 308/5 in 20 overs against North Delhi Strikers.
He also topped the batting charts in DPL 2024 with 600 runs in 10 games to grab the eyeballs of IPL scouts. At the domestic level, Priyansh Arya played just 11 T20s for Delhi and was the top run-getter for his state in the 2023-24 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, with 222 runs in seven matches at a strike rate of 166.91.
At a base price of ₹30 lakhs, Priyansh Arya was a hot property at the IPL 2025 mega auction with Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, all bidding for the youngster. In the end, it was Punjab Kings who had the last laugh for ₹3.8 crores.
