The Mandya Police and the district administration thwarted attempts by Sri Rama Sene leader Pramod Muthalik from entering the district, on Friday.

Mr. Muthalik was on his way to Maddur which witnessed clashes during Ganesha idol immersion recently and the district administration issued a directive prohibiting his entry into Mandya.

Consequently, the convoy in which Mr. Muthalik was travelling, was stopped near Nidaghatta and it was forced to turn back. Mr. Muthalik is known for his incendiary speeches and the decision to bar his entry to Mandya was taken to ensure that communal harmony was not disturbed, according to the authorities.
