A portion of a building at the Kottayam Medical College Hospital (MCH) in Kerala collapsed on Thursday (July 3, 2025), triggering panic among patients and staff.

According to hospital authorities, the collapsed section was part of the old, disused bathroom attached to the 14th ward.

Initial reports suggested that people might be trapped under the debris. The Gandhinagar police and the Fire and Rescue Services are jointly carrying out a search operation beneath the rubble. Eyewitnesses accounts too confirmed that two people sustained minor injuries.

The area had not been in active use.

Two individuals sustained minor injuries and their condition is not considered serious.

Health Minister Veena George and Minister V.N. Vasavan are currently at the spot to assess the situation.

Rajan Khobragade, Additional Chief Secretary of the Health department, is also present at the site, they added.
