A policeman attached to the Armed Reserve, Erode, attempted to end his life in Coimbatore late on Wednesday.
The police said that Parthiban, 33, who was working as a driver for a Deputy Superintendent of Police, took the extreme step.
Police sources said that Mr. Parthiban was assigned for bandobust duty in Coimbatore district for three days in connection with the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the occasion of the Maha Shivaratri celebrations held at Isha Yoga Center.
Sources said that Mr. Parthiban slit his throat on Wednesday night, allegedly over personal reasons. He had allegedly requested for leave, which was denied due to the bandobust schedule, they said.
He was admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for treatment.
