Q branch police on Tuesday night seized ₹75 lakh worth charas (cannabis concentrate made from the resin of a live cannabis plant) from a two-wheeler near Mandapam. 

According to the police, based on an information, Q branch police headed by Inspector G. Janani was involved in vehicle check on Vedalai beach road.  

While checking a two-wheeler, they found dark green balls weighing several kilograms.  

Upon further investigation with the two men, they found it was charas, a narcotic substance made from cannabis plant. About 25 kgs of charas was seized from the duo.  

B. Nambu, 37, of Mudukulathur and V. Pandi, 35, of Vedalam were arrested by the police. 

Similarly, members of Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit (OCIU) seized 3.80 lakh pieces of foreign cigarettes from a location on Valasai Muslim Street.  

No suspects were arrested. Police are in search of the accused who had stored the cigarettes. 

The seized materials were to be illegally transported to Sri Lanka, police said.
