The police have booked two cases on as many complaints by families of history sheeter Mapanna Badiger and Ali Sab who were brutally killed in Yadgir district on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the police have detained a few people for questioning.
Laxmi, wife of Mapanna, and Rubiya Begum, wife of Ali Sab, have lodged complaints in connection with the murder of their spouses.
Laxmi has lodged a complaint against Hussaini and six others of a rival gang saying that they had previously conspired to kill her husband. The Bheemarayanagudi Police have registered a case under Sections 189(2), 191(2), 191(3),103,and 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita 2023 and also Sections 3(2)(v) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989.
On the other hand, Rubiya Begam has lodged her complaint against eight people, including the two sons of Mapanna, for killing her husband.
After the deadly attack on Mapanna, a panic-stricken Ali Sab hid himself in a house in the village. However, the two sons and followers of Mapanna attacked him with a knife, the complainant said.
On her complaint, the police have registered a case under Sections 189(2), 191(2),191(3), 115(2), 118(4), 103, 352, 351 (2), 329(4) and 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita 2023.
Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar confirmed to The Hindu that the police have detained a few people for questioning in connection with the two cases. Investigation is on, he added.
As the crime created tension in the region, the funeral rites of both the deceased were carried out amid police security in Madriki village of Shahapur taluk on Monday.
The 55-year-old Mapanna was brutally murdered by rivals with lethal weapons near Sadyapur Cross in Shahapur taluk on Sunday morning while he was returning to his village from Bheemarayagudi after purchasing some vegetables along with his friend Ali Sab.
After the incident, Ali Sab was attacked by the family members and followers of Mapanna. Ali Sab breathed his last midway to hospital.
