Police constable on bike injured as inebriated driver rams SUV

A 32-year-old police constable was injured after being hit by a sports utility vehicle driven by a man in an inebriated condition on Saturday night. The Pondy Bazaar traffic investigation police have seized the SUV and arrested the driver for causing the accident. 

The victim R. Ganesan was working as a Constable in the Saidapet police station. On Saturday night after duty, he was proceeding on his two wheeler to his home when a SUV driven by M. Manikandan, who was studying medical in a private college in Tiruchi, rammed a median. Later, as he was reversing the SUV at high speed he knocked down Ganesan who was coming in the two wheeler. As Ganesan was wearing a helmet he escaped with injuries in the body. Other motorists rescued him and admitted him in the Government Royapettah Hospital for treatment. 

The Pondy Bazaar Police seized the SUV and took Manikandan to the Government Kilpauk medical college hospital where doctors certified he had consumed alcohol. The police arrested him.
