The special general council of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) convened by its founder S. Ramadoss at Pattanur near Puducherry on Sunday (August 17, 2025) resolved that he would continue to be the president of the party.
The resolution said Mr. Ramadoss took charge as president following an amendment to the party’s by-laws and approval by the administrative committee and executive committee on May 30, 2025. The move was aimed at strengthening the party and ensure its victory in the 2026 Assembly elections.
In another resolution, the general council authorised Mr. Ramdoss to take a decision on the alliance for the Assembly elections.
Another resolution warned of protest, if 10.5% internal reservations for Vanniyars were not announced.
The general council also urged the Tamil Nadu Government to immediately conduct the “caste-wise census” in the State. Though several States have conducted the “census”, the Tamil Nadu government is refusing to do it. There should be no further delay and the Government should immediately conduct the “census”, it said.
A slew of resolutions were passed including implementation of total prohibition in the State in the wake of rise in heinous crimes including rape and murder, ban on sale of ganja and other drugs in the State, construction of check dams across Cauvery river and other rivers to prevent wastage of water into the sea and inter-linking of Cauvery-Godavari river project.
Others sought reinstatement of the old pension scheme for government employees, implementation of the Nandan canal system, retrieval of Katchatheevu from Sri Lanka, regularisation of contract workers of NLC India Ltd and grant of Statehood to the Union Territory of Puducherry.
