Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate Hyderabad’s fourth passenger terminal at Cherlapalli on January 6, said Union Minister of Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy on Friday (January 3).

Cherlapalli, located on the eastern side of Hyderabad, can be connected to the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and is expected to reduce congestion at the other rail terminals of Secunderabad, Hyderabad and Kacheguda.

The new facility will feature spacious concourse areas, illuminated facade, two spacious foot-over-bridges (a 12-metre-wide one connecting all the platforms directly from the concourse and a six-metre-wide one for inter-platform movement) and lifts and escalators in all platforms.

The new terminal, built at ₹413 crore, can handle an additional 15 pairs of trains with four extra high-level platforms. The existing five platforms were also extended to accommodate full-length trains. Another 10 lines are available, taking the total capacity to 19 lines.

Mr. Kishan said that despite the “non-cooperation” by the previous BRS government, the new terminal has become a reality and pointed out that ₹720 crore is being spent on Secunderabad station modernisation and ₹350 crore for improving facilities at the Nampally station.

The Centre had allocated ₹5,336 crore for railway works in Telangana in the current financial year, he added.
